The Berkeley Humane Society provides complete care for homeless animals, from rescue to rehabilitation to adoption. We match animals with loving and committed adopters, strengthen the human-animal bond, and promote the humane treatment of animals. Our vision is to be an innovative leader in animal welfare and to provide critical resources to our community, leading the way with best practices in animal care to reduce the number of homeless animals in our community and beyond.

History

Established in 1927.

From our humble beginnings in a renovated former pool hall in West Berkeley, Berkeley Humane continues to expand and adapt the services of the organization to meet the ongoing needs of the community's animals and their human guardians. Berkeley Humane's work would not be possible without its strong partnerships with local animal welfare groups and the support from animal-loving friends who share the Society's vision. Today, Berkeley Humane has thousands of supporters and volunteers, and remains steadfast in its practices to curb pet overpopulation in the East Bay and give pet guardians the tools they need to ensure that their pets remain happy and healthy in their homes for the rest of their lives.

Business Owner

Berkeley Humane is one of the oldest and most trusted animal welfare organizations in the country. As Executive Director, Jeffrey works tirelessly to continue and grow this legacy. In a short amount of time, he has assembled a talented and dedicated team of volunteers and employees who focus their energy on providing outstanding care to the people and pets. Jeffrey also currently serves as a member of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Jeffrey likes to say that he now has the best job in the world-- and we agree with him!
