At Dan Perata Training we bring over 35 years of training and behavior experience to help dog owners build happy, healthy relationships with their canines. Dan Camp is our modified board and train program. It’s our specialty! Dogs are with us Monday through Friday and return home on the weekends. What makes our program unique is that you participate in the success of the program. We’re training you too! We use you and your dog’s time at Dan Camp to teach basic obedience and good habits (crate and potty-training for puppies, leash skills, basic commands, staying calm and socialization with other dogs and people) as well as correcting/addressing other issues such a separation anxiety, aggression, fear and reactivity. This allows structured exposure and training on how to deal with other dogs, people and distractions. At the same time we are also recreating and perfecting in-home behaviors. The outcome is a dog that is confident and calm in every environment – a confident dog is a happy dog! This is a partnership, and while much of the training will be done by us in the facility, teaching you and your dog on the ‘basics,’ it’s up to you to continue the training consistently in your home so it sticks. This is an intensive and immersive program. We work with you during and after Dan Camp to establish and reinforce good habits to achieve optimum results. On-going support is provided through follow-up lessons after camp graduation. This is included in the camp price.

I have worked with dogs and owners for over 35 years, starting with basic training for new pups to get them the best start possible, to correcting advanced behavioral issues. Over the years, I have gained a reputation as the person that can "fix" what other trainers can not. I offer phone and email support to all of my clients, and I work hard to create a program for both you and your pet.

Dan Perata is a San Francisco original; someone who has always bucked the traditional conventional wisdom. A third-generation native of the city, Dan has always had a natural rapport with all animals, dogs in particular. Dan began working with and observing dogs as a boy around his grandfather’s hunting dogs. He had no interest in training the dogs using shock collars and food bribes. He decided to use love, praise and compassion as the reward and found it to be a more effective alternative. Dan is known for his outspokenness, humor and straight-shooting manner--a manner that the dogs love (but you are not required to), because he radiates the energy of consistency and resoluteness that dogs naturally respond to. When you work with Dan, you’re working with an original thinker with the courage to break with worn out training paradigms to create a style of dog training that is infinitely more compassionate, forward thinking and effective. (And fun!)
