We believe that pets are family members, and we strive to build a strong, caring relationship with your family. Many of our clients have been with us for several generations. With a diversity of background experience in our sizable group practice, our team of vets is able to collaborate on a great variety of medical approaches. We offer a wide range of dental, surgical, ultrasound & digital X-ray diagnostic technologies to address your animal's medical issues. Complex conditions may call for advanced treatments, so we also work closely with specialists to address our patients' cases thoroughly. Most importantly, we want to help you to enrich your pet's happy, healthy lifestyle.

History

Established in 1910.

Mission pet Hospital is the oldest continuously operating veterinary hospital in San Francisco, and was initially established as an equine practice in 1910, to treat the carriage horses of the city. The Mission Pet Hospital last changed hands in 11/81 when Dr. John Holden purchased the then small, quiet business, and energized and modernized the practice as the Mission district was growing into the most exciting neighborhood in the city. MPH grew from 1 veterinarian to the current staff of 5 full time vets and 20+ ancillary positions. Dr. Curtis Press was made a partner in 2000, and currently oversees the day to day operation, and medical practice. Many of our staff members have over 10 years of experience with us, with some of our key personnel logging in over 25 years at our neighborhood clinic.

Dr. Curtis Press is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. He went to veterinary school in Massachusetts at Tufts University, graduating in 1995. He then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic. His first job after completing the internship was at Mission Pet Hospital. "I have basically come to MPH to stay. Working in a constructive environment that allows me to practice very high quality medicine has always been my highest career priority." Dr. Press met his wife, Dr. Mary Press, at Tufts. They now have 5 kids; Joe, Emily, Jason, Sarah, and Fiver. As if the kids don't make the house enough of a zoo, they also have 2 dogs, 2 cats, a parrot, a tortoise, 3 chickens, and a horse. Coaching (baseball, softball, basketball) and family (including the animals) have pretty much taken over all other hobbies, "although I am trying to hang on to skiing, sailing, and baseball.
