Dr. Wagenknecht started St. Louis Veterinary Center, formerly known as the St. Louis Pet Clinic, in 1991.

Dr. Wagenknecht graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. He also has Masters Degrees in both Animal Science and Business Administration.
Dr. Wagenknecht has worked as a staff veterinarian for Ralston Purina and managed a large-animal feed and health company in the Chicago area. He also built and ran the Towne and Country Horse Stable in St. Louis County.
In 1989, Dr. Wagenknecht began practicing small-animal medicine and surgery in St. Louis. In 1994, he received additional special training in efficient surgical technique for spay and neuter surgery.
Over the years, Dr. Wagenknecht has worked with three animal shelters to provide affordable spay and neuter services. He also works closely with several animal-rescue groups, and his clinic was the first in the St. Louis area to offer early-age spay and neuter.
Dr. Wagenknecht owns and operates St. Louis Veterinary Center's boarding facility along with Whitehouse Kennel (located in Arnold Mo)
